Rheumatology
The term 'rheumatism' includes every skeletal system symptom caused by inflammation of joints in the body. The rheumatology department diagnoses and provides treatment for symptoms from joints, muscles, and bones. Diseases treated in this department are on the rise due to the advancement in medical treatments and the increase in senior population. Traditionally these diseases were either ignored or dependant on orthopedics, however the advancement in medical treatment allowed soft tissue and muscloskeletal diseases to be identified in early stages and to be treated with internal medicine, the need of surgery for the diseases has declined significantly.
